Walnut, CA. (PRWEB) April 23, 2015
The jQuery Foundation today announces the immediate availability of version 1.0 of its highly-anticipated Globalize project. Globalize provides developers with always up-to-date global number formatting and parsing, date and time formatting and parsing, currency formatting, and message formatting. Based on the Unicode Consortium standards and specifications, Globalize uses the Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR), the most extensive and widely-used standard repository of locale data. With Globalize, all developers can quickly reach global markets with confidence that their apps and sites will always have the most accurate and up-to-date locale data available.
“Interest in web globalization has steadily increased in recent years, with the number of languages supported by top global sites such as Google, Facebook and Wikipedia averaging 50, according to Byte Level Research Web Globalization Report Card,” said Kris Borchers, jQuery Foundation Executive Director. “Still, across most other sites the average number of languages supported is just 25, according to the same research. Globalize is a terrific example of the jQuery Foundation’s ability to engage with leading Industry players like Adobe, IBM and Twitter, to name a few, and rapidly level the playing field through open source and standards so all developers can code quickly and cost-effectively for the global market.”
“As a founding member of both the Unicode Consortium and the jQuery Foundation, IBM congratulates the jQuery community for delivering this Globalize 1.0 library,” added Steve Atkin, Chief Globalization Architect at IBM. “jQuery’s leadership in helping the JavaScript community leverage other existing open technologies like Unicode’s CLDR to simplify development is instrumental in accelerating worldwide cloud and mobile application delivery. Globalize 1.0’s availability as both an NPM module and for front-end JavaScript frameworks will enable developers across the enterprise to focus on the content of their app, rather than spending precious time researching how to properly format data for a global audience,” continued Atkin.
“As Adobe transitions to the cloud, rapidly expanding our service to global markets becomes imperative,” said Lily Wen, Senior International Engineering Manager, Adobe Globalization. “The generic nature of jQuery/Globalize makes it easy to integrate with various JavaScript framework environments, enabling Adobe products to reach global markets quickly,” Wen continued. “The decision to base Globalize on CLDR Data ensures Adobe customers across the globe have a consistent experience. We look forward to integrating Globalize into our products and continuing to contribute to it and to the web globalization community.”
Added Chris Aniszczyk, Head of Open Source at Twitter, “we’re thrilled about the potential of the Globalize project and look forward to collaborating with the jQuery community to improve the feature set using our internationalization experience with Twitter CLDR JS.”
