Since 2011, Virtual Photo Walks, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is a charity that harnesses the power of cloud-based videoconferencing technology including Zoom to enable the disabled, infirm and those isolated and hospitalized – young and old – to visit distant places. Using “virtual volunteer guides” equipped with smart phones, the disabled can participate in immersive, real-time experiences of places they will likely never see first-hand. They can interact with each other and their virtual photographer guide in each private videoconference.
