Balis siren song has struck and alluring high note with the new Bali Inter-Continental Resort, a striking new tropical getaway spot situated on 14 hectares (35 acres) of beautifully landscape grounds along 500 meters (550 yards) of a sweeping stretch of shoreline in Jimbaran. Although this luxury resort is just a ten minutes drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, it seems at least a million miles away from the every day cares of the rest of the world.
From the moment guest first enter the resorts gorgeous landscape ground, it is obvious that the creators of Bali Inter-Continental Resort were determined to present the essence of traditional Balinese cultures through fine works of specially commissioned art. In the forecourt, for example, are five magnificent stone carvings representing the Pandawa Lima, leading characters in the Mahabarata epic, behind the reception counter in the main lobby are bas-reliefs, lovingly executed in local woods that represent the floral offerings so typical of Bali.
In the central courtyard on the resort beachward side are 17 decorative stones fish which serve as imaginative waterspouts in an impressive decorative pool. Look, too, for a delicate sandalwood statue depicting the goddess Dewi Saraswati, located in the Saraswati Lounge in the main lobby. Most dramatic of all the resorts artworks perhaps, is the massive and decidedly non traditional bronze sculpture in the lobby. Its name is Ombak Baruna and it suggests the movement of ocean waves along the islands shore
With its 431 rooms and suites, the Bali Inter-Continental Resort is the Inter continental group first top class resort property in the Asia- Pacific region. On the firt and second floors are 139 superior rooms. On the third and fourth floor are 135 deluxe rooms. Each has a full 48 square meters (517 square feet) of air conditioned comfort, with the great majority affording ocean views from private balconies. A separate Club Inter-Continental features 77 Club Rooms, each measuring 52 square meters. Club guests have access to a special lounge where complimentary breakfast, late afternoon cocktails and tea and coffee are served. Dedicated staff attends to Club guests special need.
