Art at Large, Inc., and ArtFarm Celebrate the Book Release of Love Will See You Through

Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) February 23, 2015

On Friday, March 13th, 2015, the public is invited to attend an Annapolis Arts District event, hosted by Art at Large, Inc. and ArtFarm, to celebrate the book release of Love Will See You Through, illustrated by local Annapolis artist Sally Wern Comport. The event will be held at the ArtFarm Studio, 47 Spa Rd in Annapolis, from 6:30-9pm.

Love Will See You Through, a Simon and Schuster “children of all ages” book is about Martin Luther King’s Six Guiding Beliefs (As Told By His Niece) Angela Farris Watkins, PhD. This unique perspective personalizes the icon and inspires tangible change in readers young and old, through the practice of these six simple, yet profound pillars of compassion.

The art of Love Will See You Through sings with Sally’s strengths as an artist– sensitivity to color, choreography, mood, working with type, and pure drawing technique, with crowd scenes, architecture, and personal likeness all the while showcasing exuberant life in every space of the page. The art for the book was a year in the making.

“The bold, colorful mixed-media illustrations capture the emotion of the situations described, and Watkin’s writing style is conversational but impassioned” – Stephanie Farnlacher, School Library Journal.

The Art At Large studio has been located in the Annapolis Arts District since before its designation as an Arts District, and Sally has been one of the pioneers of the art inspired community from the beginning. With the release of a book, celebrating love and community, Sally stated, “It would be best to share the milestone, making the book launch a premier Annapolis Arts District event. It was an easy decision to partner with the ArtFarm studio along with Compass Rose Theater. We want to invite the public to share in our celebration of the arts.”

Prior to the book celebration, Art At Large and ArtFarm have invited the children of Girl Scout Troop 1812 and The Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County (BGCAA) along with other young artists to attend a special art workshop. The workshop will be held at the ArtFarm Studio on Spa Rd and will be taught by Sally Wern Comport. The kids will be creating a collage about a word (love, peace, hope). The student artwork will be exhibited at the Event on March 13 alongside Sally’s original art from the book.

Members of Troop 1812, working towards their Silver Award, raised enough money to provide scholarships for the BGCAA members to attend the art workshop. At the exhibit they hope to raise more money to try this again in the future. Their goal is to create and sell note cards, featuring the kids’ art, to provide more scholarships for future art workshops. The student work will also be exhibited at the Boys & Girls Club “Youth of the Year Celebration in April

Attendees of the book launch will enjoy an exhibition of the original art from Love Will See You Through, ArtFarm student work, as well as photography celebrating the Martin Luther King, Jr. legacy.

Books will be available for purchase from Annapolis Bookstore. Enjoy light fare and refreshments, live entertainment in Compass Rose Theater lobby and meditation on King’s message at the Zen House. An informal after party will migrate to Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge on West Street after the event.
